COMMUNITY MEMO
TO: All Community Residents
FROM: TFN Chief & Council
DATE: February 19, 2021
RE: COVID-19 Update
Dear Community Residents,
Holding health and safety being paramount during this time, please be advised, Chief and Council hereby resolve that the community of Bear Island is moving from the GREY-LOCKDOWN phase to the RED-CONTROL phase. This effort is to ensure the continued safety of the community, mitigate potential infection and spread of the virus and in consideration of the new variant strains being reported.
Further, the No-Trespassing restriction will remain in effect for the general public with the exception of patrons to the Pier Market, Temagami First Nation Citizens, Teme-Augama Anishnabai Citizens and those deemed to be essential workers. This being said, please continue to maintain physical distancing measures. We understand the importance and innate need to gather with family members. We urge you to keep within your household bubbles. With the new COVID-19 variant strains more contagious being reported is concerning.
Respectfully, please continue practicing the safety measures that we know stops the spread of the virus. Wash your hands, wear a mask and remain only with those living in your household. By following these guidelines, together, we are keeping our community safe and healthy.
Our community is privileged to be able to provide essential services so that Citizens can minimize travel. The Doreen Potts Health Centre will provide any prescription pickups, as well are equipped for Covid-19 testing. Please contact them rather than travelling off-island. The DPHC Medical Transportation service has been reinstated under strict essential-only services. Call 705-237-8900 ext.301.
The Family Healing and Wellness Centre and the Home and Community Care are heading the Food Security program and can provide grocery and household necessities to residents. This service is available for all residents of Bear Island and you are also encouraged to shop at the Pier Market. Please reach out to the Food Security Group on Mondays to place your order by calling 705-237-8022 ext. 409.
The LMLC continues to provide virtual learning to students and the daycare will continue to offer virtual programming. All TFN offices remain closed but staff can still be reached as normal by phone and email.
In unity,
Temagami First Nation Chief and Council
