Re: Shuttle Pick-Up and Drop-Off Location

Please be advised that, effective April 21, 2026, all shuttle pick-up and drop-off will now be as follows:

  • Bear Island: Pickup will take place at the long floating dock in front of the MGM (the usual main shuttle pickup location).
  • Mine Road: Pickup will take place at the main Mine Landing.

We kindly ask that all passengers travelling are required to book their shuttle trip in advance to secure a seat.  To book your trip please contact reception at 705-237-8943 ext. 101.

Teme Augama Anishinabek to Host Name Restoration
Ceremony and Community Gathering

BEAR ISLAND, ON —Media are invited to attend a community ceremony and unveiling gathering marking the restoration of the Nation’s traditional name, Teme Augama Anishinabek, in the spirit of language, identity, and cultural reclamation. The gathering will take place on theSpring Equinox, symbolizing renewal and  new beginnings, and will include ceremony, teachings, dialogue, and community reflection.

What: Teme Augama Anishinabek: Restoring Our Name
When: Friday, March 20, 2026 | 2:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Where: Minowaabandan‑gamiing Mawanjihidiwining Gathering Hall
55 Wa‑wa‑te Avenue, Bear Island, Ontario

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

  • Opening Drum and Prayer
  • Welcoming Remarks
  • Teachings by Alex Mathias, Language Carrier, on Anishinaabemowin, history, land, and Anishinaabe ways of knowing
  • Fireside Chat featuring Language Carriers and members of the Teme Augama Anishinabek Anishinaabemowin Sagaswe’idiwin (Language Commission)
  • Community Dinner and Gift Giving
  • Closing Drum and Prayer

This gathering formally acknowledges the Nation’s transition from its colonial name to its traditional name and the unveiling of an updated logo reflecting this change, while honouring the original artwork by community artist Dan Mongrain.

Media are welcome to attend and observe. Please note that portions of the event are ceremonial; respectful observation is requested.
