September 30th – National Day of Truth and Reconciliation

September 28, 2021 By Temagami First Nation

The Bear Island Community is invited to this day of acknowledgment and recognition of all of our relations effected by the atrocities committed to the children of Residential Schools,

those who survived and those we lost.

It is our hope that this gathering will give each of us a safe place to share truths, to teach, to learn and hopefully to work on healing ourselves, our community and our Nation.

Justice and Victim Services will have Every Child Matters T-Shirts,  ball caps and flags for all residents. You can pick up your supplies at the Gathering Hall throughout the day on Wednesday (Sept.29). We ask that you hang your flags and wear your T-shirts. We will collect some drone footage of participating Community Members across Bear Island, Displays of support will be filmed and posted to social media. We stand in mourning, remembrance and insistence that the TRCs 94 calls to action be fulfilled.

Schedule:

Sunrise -Sacred Fire (til sundown)

9am – Gathering Hall – Opening

10am – Film Screening

10:30am – Family Scavenger Hunt

12pm – Lunch Break – Soup/Sandwiches

1pm – Drone Fly-by
