Community Memo – January 8, 2021
COMMUNITY MEMO
TO: All Community Residents
FROM: TFN Chief & Council
DATE: January 8, 2021
RE: Lockdown Extended to January 25, 2021
Dear Community Residents,
Please be advised, as a result of the rise in Covid-19 positive cases in the surrounding districts, Chief and Council hereby notify residents that Bear Island shall align with the Ontario Provincial government’s measures of extending community GREY-LOCKDOWN status until January 25th, 2021.
TFN will be offering essential services only. This does not mean that all other services are suspended, instead, those non-essential services will be provided remotely with employees working from home. During this period, regular programming is suspended and will be offered virtually instead.
We encourage you to only travel when absolutely necessary and to maintain physical distancing with everyone other than those who reside in your home. This is the best practice to maintain the health and safety of our community and families. We further encourage you to connect with friends and neighbours virtually or by phone and check in on those who may be struggling with isolation and if you are showing any flu-like symptoms stay home. If you suspect you may need Covid testing, call the Doreen Potts Health Centre at 705-237-8900 ext 305. An isolation unit can be made available to anyone who needs to isolate away from their household. To make those arrangements, call 705-237-8900 ext. 302.
The Food Security Program will be available for all community members during the lockdown period however they have already placed the next order. Please contact 705-237-8022 ext.409 if you require food security assistance.
During this lockdown period, the LMLC will continue to provide virtual learning to students and the daycare will remain closed. All TFN offices will be closed but staff can still be reached as normal by phone and email.
You all have done a great job in keeping the community safe from Covid-19 and we urge you to keep at maintaining distancing from others outside of your household and limiting trips outside of the community. Thank you for respecting and continuing to participate in these health and safety measures. We are asking you to isolate yourselves but rest assure that we are all in this together.
The First Nation Control Group will reassess the situation on January 19th and confirm with Chief and Council on January 20th to communicate the re-opening of band buildings and services on January 25th.
In unity,
Temagami First Nation Chief and Council
