RE: SNOWMOBILE TRAIL
STATUS UPDATE
Temagami First Nation Infrastructure Department wishes to advise the community of Bear Island that community members travelling by snowmobile should continue to utilize the MARKED, REFLECTOR PICKETED TRAIL that passes out of Steve Laronde’s property, goes past Friday’s Point and comes out at Loon Lodge. The Infrastructure team is prepping another separate trail, however it is NOT YET READY or safe for travel. Please keep off this new trail until further notice.
Please travel with care.
Should you have any questions, please contact John Charyna by phone at

Re: Food and Travel Conditions
Food Distribution:
Community members who have not travelled off-island, due to lack of transportation or due to discomfort in travel conditions at this time, are invited to come to the MgM Kitchen to pick up a supplement food supply on Wednesday, January 2023 (tomorrow), from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. If you require food to be delivered to due lack of transportation, please call the Band Office: 705-237-8943 ext. 101; food delivery services will take place between 10:00 am – 2:00 pm on Wednesday, January 11th, 2023.
Please understand that the intention of the food deliveries that have been brought into the community is so that community members remain healthy and safe during this time of inclement weather. If you choose to travel, you are responsible for your own grocery supplies at this time. Any leftover food purchased in our order and not used by community members in need will be donated to Temagami First Nation’s Food Bank.
Chief and Council wish to express their appreciation to those who are providing these services to the community and keeping the community members safe.
Ice and Travel:
As mentioned in the previous update, a snowmobile trail to the Access Road has successfully marked. If community members are heading out, please stay on the trail, as the conditions off trail are not safe. The trail off Bear Island starts at Steve Laronde’s house and is marked to Loon Lodge. As every year, this trail is to be used at your own risk. Please travel with caution and care and stay safe.
At this time, shuttle services are unavailable and Medical Transportation will not be doing trips until the shuttle services resume once it is safe to do so. DPHC staff will be reaching out to those who require this service.
