A true commitment to effective consultation and productive partnership between the Justice Services and the greater community lends itself to more successful outcomes in identifying, prioritizing and problem-solving of community issues and concerns, ultimately to improve community safety and quality of life.
The committee membership is drawn from various organizations within the community to reflect both inclusiveness and credibility within that community. The committee serves as a voice on wider justice issues such as Victim services, Anti-racism and restorative justice initiatives
A Police Officer has been appointed to the committee to ensure that there is an effective flow of information between the respective police and the community on a wide variety of issues. The Bear Island Police have direct access to the Chief and Council through the police committee; this has given the police a point of reference in the community to engage in constructive dialogue with the appropriate, recognized community spokespersons.
